HISTORY OF LED SMART
LED SMART was founded in 1995 in Edmonton, Alberta to take advantage of the developing LED lighting market.
After a quarter-century of experience being at the forefront of emerging markets within the LED industry, LED SMART is considered a pioneer for it's first to market product commitment.
Our in-house research and development team consistently engineer some of the most innovative products on the market today, including AI, IoT and mesh networking technologies.
By having all our departments under one roof, from design to production, the LED product line-up has strict quality controls from start to finish.

1997 LED SMART moves into a new production facility in Edmonton, AB for larger electronic assembly

2005 LED SMART starts the first design of linear LED Lighting Tube, first of its kind in the industry

2006 LED SMART installs first trial LED Lighting retrofit system on a transit bus, in Orange County, CA

2007 LED SMART starts the production of the new LED Taxi Top lights for New York City style taxi top advertising

2007 LED SMART designs and supplies a custom LED Lighting system, with dual color capability, dimmable NVIS Blue for AAI/Textron's UGCS Ground Control Shelters

2008 LED SMART installs first trial LED Lighting retrofit system on a light rail car, Calgary, AB Canada
​
2008 LED SMART and Coast Mountain Bus Company (Vancouver, BC) retrofit interior lighting on all 245 trolley and STC Diesel buses

2009 LED SMART installs first fleet wide LED Lighting retrofit system on a light rail car, Calgary, AB Canada

2009 LED SMART begins delivery of custom designed military grade lighting system for Canada MSVS Project

2009 LED SMART starts to provide Motor Coach Industries (MCI) their internal LED Lighting systems - for both their J-Coach and D-Coach production lines

2009 LED SMART supplies Edmonton Transit - Light Rail - with the first LED Lighting system for their fleet retrofit lighting for Siemens U2 car overhaul

2010 LED SMART supplies LED lighting system for first fleet wide light rail retrofit in USA, for NJ Transit Hudson- Bergen Line

2011 LED SMART and NABI install the retrofit lighting system for Liberty Lines, NY, Bus Lighting Systems for their 60' Neoplan articulated buses

2011 LED SMART supplies LED lighting system for fleet wide light rail retrofit in Cleveland, OH (GCRTA)

2012 LED SMART provides United Streetcar LED Interior lighting systems for integration direct to their brand- new rail cars - for Portland Streetcar and Sunlink Transit (Tucson, AZ)

2012 LED SMART provides first delivery of LED Lighting, high grade commercial tubes to SEPTA (Philadelphia Transit), for use in all their 200+ transit stations and concourse retrofit upgrades

2013 LED SMART provides lighting for the US Coast Guard "People Pod" through Berg Manufacturing - includes custom designed light for best safety lighting system, maximized head room, dual color with NVIS Blue lighting
​
2013 LED SMART designs and manufactures custom made kit lighting for the interior MSVS desk light project for Canada Forces
​
2014 LED SMART provides custom made lighting system for City of Philadelphia clock tower. A custom designed color to mimic the clock face color, as part of the city hall restoration project

2015 LED SMART develops LED Lighting retrofit 24" lamp for marine use, based on US Navy mil-spec.

2016 LED SMART receives official approval letter for 24" Navy Lamp from NAVSEA 05Z (NSN 6240-01-610-2124)

2017 LED SMART awarded custom designed, LED Lighting and Power Supply System for the Canadian Forces HQSS Project. Consisting of more than 8500 Light Kits, 2200 Power Panels and other peripheral components. Production to consist of up to 5 years of production, plus, up to 20 years of in-service support

2017 LED SMART develops LED Lighting retrofit for 48" high bay application for marine use, based on US Navy mil-spec
​
2018 LED SMART develops T5 12", 18" and 24" T8 lamps for marine application, according to US Mil-spec
​
2018 LED SMART granted letter from US Navy - NAVSEA 05Z for approval of our FLZ-48" lamp for high bay lighting (NSN 6240-01-655-7354)

2018 LED SMART provides first delivery of custom designed LED Lighting for New York City Transit (NYCT) MTA light rail cars, for the R142, R142A, R160 series

2018 LED SMART marked as a top performer in Canada - listed in the Top 500 Growth Business in Canada
